Summary

Could not finish。 My god the writing is terrible must she describe everything in boring detail? The story was magnificent I fell in love with the movie。 But if you cur out all the bullshit descriptions the book would be 1/4 the length。Its like she didn’t meet her word count and just added BS in every sentence。

I liked this book quite a bit! It's not my usual genre, but it was well written, and I enjoyed the different perspectives on different people and places throughout the book--for example hearing the descriptions of Chase from the Sheriff's, Deputy Sheriff's, Kya's, and Tate's were all different, but not contradictory, just a matter of their views of the world。 It also felt like the author really loved the marsh, which is an ecosystem I don't think about a lot, but I feel more affection for it now I liked this book quite a bit! makes a marsh sound like somewhere I want to reside。 I enjoyed。 Easy to read and pulled at the heart strings。

A little upset I read this before reading more about the author…please don’t buy this book。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This was a beautiful book。 I loved the imagery the author used for the marsh, and the way it paralleled Kya throughout the story。 The foreshadowing was a little bit heavy handed, it made it so obvious that Kya killed Chase to the point I thought for sure it must have been someone else (Chase’s wife, the sheriff, Tate, an evil twin)。 I didn’t feel that the “twist” at the end was much of a twist, butit was still a well told story。

I wanted to like this book so bad。 I just could not get into it。 It took me so long to read it, and maybe if I had sat down and committed I would have enjoyed it more。 I loved the idea, the characters, and the setting。 It just never fully drew me in for some reason。

I just finished this book and all I can say is wow。When I first started reading, I was unsure how I was going to feel or even where the story was going… I initially wasn’t a fan of the overly romantic and whimsical language and thought this was going to be a LONG book if it was entirely written the way it was the first 100ish pages… Safe to say it wasn’t and the story was incredible。I love how this book is a murder mystery, love story, and coming of age story all in one… You really feel all the I just finished this book and all I can say is wow。When I first started reading, I was unsure how I was going to feel or even where the story was going… I initially wasn’t a fan of the overly romantic and whimsical language and thought this was going to be a LONG book if it was entirely written the way it was the first 100ish pages… Safe to say it wasn’t and the story was incredible。I love how this book is a murder mystery, love story, and coming of age story all in one… You really feel all the feels in a constant ride of emotion。I cannot wait to see the movie now, I hope it does this book justice! 。。。more

I've seen so many controversial reviews on TikTok about this book, but I honestly loved it! people were annoyed with how much it talks about the mash and how it spends whole pages describing stuff。 i loved how descriptive it was。 I loved how much detail there was about her younger life。 and the biggest plot twist in the end OMG never would have expected it! DNF! I hate not finishing books, but I just couldn't force myself to finish this one。 I know a lot of people love it, but this one is just not for me。 I'm not sure why it's marketed as a thriller, because it is most definitely historical fiction, and not thriller-esque at all。 It is VERY slow, boring, and quite predictable。 Around 40 pages in, I was pretty sure I knew where it was going, and at about 100, I was positive, so I didn't see the need to continue when I was already bored with it, and DNF! I will never not recommend this book to someone。 Just for the detail about the marsh life you get。 To be one with nature in such a way that nature literally is your family。 The ending was so good! If I could read this book over as though I have never read it, I would。 Wow just wow!

This book was more than I thought it could be。 Brilliant and so heartfelt。 It was beautifully descriptive and really made you feel like you were there with Kya thru everything。

Overall a 3。5。 The beginning was a solid 3 but about halfway I did really enjoy the story。 It was a good audio book listen。 If I was reading it in physical book form idk if I would've dnf'd it based on the beginning was slow for me。 Not really knowing what the book was about going in。 About 60% of the book was a 4/5 stars。 But the beginning and very very end were more a 3/5So 3。5/5 Overall a 3。5。 The beginning was a solid 3 but about halfway I did really enjoy the story。 It was a good audio book listen。 If I was reading it in physical book form idk if I would've dnf'd it based on the beginning was slow for me。 Not really knowing what the book was about going in。 About 60% of the book was a 4/5 stars。 But the beginning and very very end were more a 3/5So 3。5/5 。。。more

What a beautifully written book!I'd seen good reviews from friends, but I wasn't sure that this would be a book that I would enjoy。 I am so happy to be so wrong。 I loved this book。 Some of the text is almost poetic - and that's without the actual poems that are included at various points in the story。We follow Kya (Catherine Daniel Clark), The Marsh Girl, as she grows up in a shack in the North Carolina marshes。 Members of her family each leave the family home so that she ends up running the hou What a beautifully written book!I'd seen good reviews from friends, but I wasn't sure that this would be a book that I would enjoy。 I am so happy to be so wrong。 I loved this book。 Some of the text is almost poetic - and that's without the actual poems that are included at various points in the story。We follow Kya (Catherine Daniel Clark), The Marsh Girl, as she grows up in a shack in the North Carolina marshes。 Members of her family each leave the family home so that she ends up running the house for her and her father, before he leaves too and she is entirely alone。 Not wanting to be taken into care, and having had a bad experience during her one day at school, she evades authorities and learns to survive on her own。Once in her 20s, she is accused of the murder of Chase Andrews, former High School Quarterback, although there is no real evidence against her, or of an actual murder。 How will a trial in a town full of prejudice against The Marsh Girl end? Beautifully written, and I had tears in my eyes as I read the final chapters。 This deserves more than 5 stars。I can see why it is being made into a film, but I feel like there is a lot in the book that won't be able to be portrayed on screen。 Also, reading the book once you know what will happen would be less enjoyable than not knowing the outcomes。 。。。more

Ngl the first 100 pages were really slow BUT after that the book really starts to get good and I could not stop reading。 The ending had me in tears。 I would definitely recommend。Not good enough to be 6 stars but id give 5。5 ⭐️

i watched the film before i read the book and this is one of the rare cases where i can say that the film was a lot better than the book it was based on。 the book was pretentiously written, it was hard to connect to any of the characters at all & the mystery wasn’t much of a mystery whereas the film was an actually compelling story about loneliness, isolation and abuse。 it’s a bit crazy to me that the film managed to be so much better and fixed some of the problems of the book (for example aging i watched the film before i read the book and this is one of the rare cases where i can say that the film was a lot better than the book it was based on。 the book was pretentiously written, it was hard to connect to any of the characters at all & the mystery wasn’t much of a mystery whereas the film was an actually compelling story about loneliness, isolation and abuse。 it’s a bit crazy to me that the film managed to be so much better and fixed some of the problems of the book (for example aging up the characters slash making them around the same age so we don’t have to witness a 19 year-old man dating a fourteen year-old teenage girl wtf) because they did very much stick to the plot of the book with the script for the film。 yet, the book was an absolute flop imo and i don’t understand how it ever got this popular on its own without the film to promote it。uhmm also the fact that the author definitely is a racist eco fascist who’s wanted for questioning in a murder case similar to the one she wrote about in this book?? i do not see how this couldn’t affect everyone’s reviews 。。。more

Turns out Tate is a creep the smut between the 14 and 19 year old was not ok。 They can never just have a guy and a girl be friends and it's so damn annoying。 Chase was so fucking annoying and foul like of course he's a rapist manipulative womanizer。 He deserved to die and Tate should have too。 This book is so disturbing its portrayls of relationships and the fact that everyone loves this book is such a red flag。 It isn't even written well and is so damn boring like I don't care she lives in the marsh alone and does nothing。 The romanticizing of the grooming and trying to redeem Tate is bad too and I just looked up the ending cause there was no way I was finishing this dogshit and of course him and Kya ended up together。The dialogue was unreadable like what the fuck was that it was awful。Only good character in this book was the brother he's the only redeeming quality。 This is a half star book and that half star is for him。 I already forget his name and he was the only good character。。。 。。。more
